Pioneer Physicians doesn’t have a clinic in Darien. Our clinic is in Bolingbrook, southwest of Darien and about 7 to 9 miles by road from most homes in town. The U.S. Census Bureau puts Darien’s population at about 21,900, all of it in DuPage County. Our building sits on the Will County side of Bolingbrook, so the drive crosses a county line.
Urgent care has two common nicknames, immediate care and walk-in clinic. How long is the drive from Darien to our clinic?
Plan on 13 to 15 minutes in light traffic. Nearly every route uses the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) southbound to exit 267 for IL 53, then a right onto South Bolingbrook Drive for the last 0.8 mile. The OSRM routing service gives these times from three parts of Darien:
- Central Darien, around Cass Avenue and 75th Street: Cass Avenue south to I-55. About 7.9 miles, 13 minutes.
- East Darien, on Plainfield Road near the Indian Prairie Public Library: Plainfield Road west to Cass Avenue, then south to I-55. About 8.9 miles, 15 minutes.

What we treat and test on site
Come to us when an illness or injury can’t wait for your regular doctor and nobody’s life is in danger. MedlinePlus, the National Library of Medicine’s health site, names sore throats, earaches, colds and flu, low-grade fevers, limited rashes, back pain and sprains as examples. Tests we run during the visit
Most testing happens during the same visit, starting with X-ray, which is on site seven days a week. Strep, flu and COVID rapid tests, urine tests and EKGs are all done in the building. Blood is drawn here, but the tubes go to an outside lab for processing, so those results take longer than the rapid tests. We don’t have CT or MRI. Falls and injuries in Darien’s older adults
About one in four Darien residents is 65 or older. The Census Bureau’s 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey estimates 5,324 people in that age group, or 24.3 percent of the city, and puts the median age at 44.4 years.
Falls are a real risk at that age. According to the CDC, more than one in four older people fall each year, yet under half of them mention it to their doctor. Falls can break a wrist, arm, ankle or hip. A painful, swollen wrist or ankle after a fall is a good reason to come in. An X-ray here can show a break, and a splint or crutches can be fitted at the same visit.
A blow to the head is different. The CDC warns that blood thinners, including anticoagulants and antiplatelet medicines such as aspirin, may raise the risk of bleeding in the brain after a head injury. We have no CT scanner, so if you or a parent takes a blood thinner and hits their head in a fall, go to a hospital emergency room instead of coming to us. Call 911 if a head injury comes with passing out, fainting or confusion.
Physicals for Darien students, athletes and truck drivers
We do sports, school and annual physicals for students and adults. The City of Darien lists six public school districts that serve its residents: 60, 61, 63 and 66 for the elementary and middle school grades, plus high school District 86, which runs Hinsdale South High School on Clarendon Hills Road, and District 99, which runs Downers Grove South. Bring the form your school or team handed out.
We don’t give childhood vaccinations. For required school shots, your child’s pediatrician is the usual place, and the DuPage County Health Department is the other option. The county gives childhood shots at its Westmont, Wheaton and Lombard offices under the Vaccines for Children program, which is meant for uninsured children, children whose insurance won’t pay for vaccines, and Medicaid-eligible children. Commercial truck and bus drivers who need a DOT physical can come in any day of the week. The exam is done by a certified medical examiner whose name appears in the FMCSA National Registry.
Insurance and self-pay for Darien patients
Our accepted plans include Medicare, Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Cigna, Aetna and UnitedHealthcare. Illinois Medicaid members can use HFS, Meridian, CountyCare, Molina or YouthCare coverage here. Is there a walk-in clinic in Darien, IL?
