Insurance accepted at our urgent care
We accept the plans below at our Bolingbrook clinic. One company can sell job-based plans, individual plans, Medicare Advantage plans and Medicaid plans, and each of those plans can use its own network of doctors and clinics. The insurer’s name on this list is a good start, but the plan printed on your card is what decides coverage, so call to confirm your specific plan with the card in hand.
- Aetna
- Cigna
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois
- UnitedHealthcare
- Humana
- Medicare
- Illinois Medicaid (HFS), plus the Meridian, CountyCare, Molina and YouthCare plans

Guides for each plan we accept
Each plan has its own page with what to bring, how the plan’s rules can affect your visit and what to ask before you come. Start with the one on your card.
Medicare
After you meet the Part B deductible, Medicare says you pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for urgently needed care. Our Medicare page covers Medicare Advantage plans, what to bring and what to ask before your visit.
Illinois Medicaid
Illinois Medicaid is accepted here, both through HFS and through the Meridian, CountyCare, Molina and YouthCare health plans. According to Illinois HFS, YouthCare is the HealthChoice Illinois plan for youth in DCFS care and former youth in care. Details are on our Illinois Medicaid page.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois
If you have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois coverage, check whether it is a PPO, an HMO or another plan type, because the rules differ. Our Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois page explains what to check before a visit.
Aetna
With Aetna, the network for your specific plan is what counts, more than the Aetna name on the card. See our Aetna page for how to confirm your plan’s network and what to bring.
Cigna
With Cigna, as with any insurer, your plan type decides how care outside the network is handled. Our Cigna page walks through what to look for on your plan documents.
UnitedHealthcare
UnitedHealthcare networks depend on the specific plan, so keep your member ID handy when you call. Read more on our UnitedHealthcare page.
Humana
A Humana card can belong to a Medicare Advantage plan or another plan type, so call to confirm yours, and bring the Humana card rather than your Medicare card if it’s an Advantage plan. Our Humana page has the details.

Does urgent care take insurance?
Yes, in most cases. Medicare Part B covers urgently needed care, according to Medicare.gov, and individual and job-based health plans must give members a plain-language summary that has its own line for urgent care. What you pay depends on your plan’s cost-sharing rules and on whether the clinic is in your plan’s network.
Three terms decide your share. Your deductible is the amount you pay for covered care before your plan starts to pay. After that, you usually owe a copayment, which is a fixed dollar amount, or coinsurance, which is a percentage of the cost.
The quickest place to find your urgent care cost is your plan’s Summary of Benefits and Coverage. Look under the heading for when you need immediate medical attention. It shows what you pay for urgent care in network and out of network. You can ask your insurer or employer plan for a copy at any time.

Have your insurance card ready?
Call (630) 914-5373 to confirm your plan, then walk in any day or save your spot online.
Networks, plan types and referrals
Your plan type decides where you can get covered care and whether you need a referral. A network is the group of doctors, clinics and hospitals your insurer has a contract with. If you have an HMO or POS plan, call member services before a non-emergency visit and ask how your plan handles urgent care.
HealthCare.gov describes the main plan types this way:
- PPO: you pay less in network, and you can go out of network without a referral at a higher cost.
- HMO: usually covers only doctors who work for or contract with the HMO, except in an emergency.
- EPO: pays only for care from the plan’s network, with an exception for emergencies.
- POS: in-network care costs less, and seeing a specialist takes a referral from your primary care doctor.
What to bring to your visit
Bring your insurance card and a photo ID every time, since the card has the member ID your plan needs to process the visit. Our patient forms page explains the paperwork, and you can save your spot online before you leave home. Here is a short checklist:
- Your current insurance card, plus a second card if you have two plans
- A photo ID
- With Original Medicare, your Medicare card and any supplemental plan card
- With a Medicare Advantage plan, the plan’s card
- With Illinois Medicaid, your Medicaid or health plan member card
- Your child’s insurance card when you bring a child
- A list of your medicines and allergies

Paying without insurance
You can be seen without insurance. Self-pay is available, and your cost is the visit plus any tests you need, such as an X-ray, a rapid strep, flu or COVID test, urinalysis, an EKG or lab work. Call (630) 914-5373 for current self-pay pricing.
Our self-pay page explains what goes into the cost of a visit and what to ask before you come.

Physicals, primary care and your plan
Plans often treat a physical differently from a sick visit. Many plans pay for a checkup before you meet your deductible, and Marketplace plans cover certain preventive services in full, according to HealthCare.gov. A sports or school physical or a DOT physical for a commercial driver may not count as preventive care, so ask your plan how it handles the exam you need.
We also offer primary care at the same clinic, so your plan matters for ongoing care too. Ask your plan whether it covers the type of visit you need, then call us to confirm we take your specific plan.

Questions and answers
Questions we hear often
Still not sure? Call (630) 914-5373 and we will help you decide.
What insurance does Pioneer Physicians Urgent Care take?
We accept Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Medicare and Illinois Medicaid plans, including Meridian, CountyCare, Molina and YouthCare. Plans from the same insurer can use different networks, so call (630) 914-5373 to confirm your specific plan before your visit. Patients without insurance can use self-pay.
Do I need an appointment to use my insurance?
No. You don’t need an appointment to use your insurance here. We’re open every day, 8 AM to 8 PM, and walk-ins are welcome, or you can save your spot online before you come. Either way, bring your insurance card and a photo ID so we can bill your plan.
Do you take Medicare Advantage plans?
It depends on the plan, so call (630) 914-5373 with your plan card in hand to confirm. We accept Medicare, but Medicare Advantage plans are run by private companies that contract with Medicare, and each one sets its own network. Medicare says Advantage members use the plan’s card to get services, not the Medicare card, so bring that card to your visit.
What if I have two health insurance plans?
Bring both cards. When two plans cover the same claim, one pays first and the other pays second, which is called coordination of benefits. Medicare explains that the primary payer pays up to its limits, then sends the rest to the secondary payer, and you may owe what neither covers. Tell us about both plans at check-in.
How much is an EKG or X-ray at urgent care?
It depends on how you pay. With insurance, your share depends on your plan’s deductible, copay and coinsurance, and your Summary of Benefits and Coverage shows those amounts. Without insurance, you pay for the visit itself plus any tests the provider orders. Prices aren’t posted online, so call (630) 914-5373 for current self-pay pricing.
Does insurance cover STD testing at your clinic?
It depends on your plan, so check your benefits or ask your plan’s member services before you come. Our STD testing is confidential, and self-pay is available; call (630) 914-5373 for current pricing. Some STD results come back the same day, and the rest are sent to an outside lab.
My plan isn’t on your list. Can I still come in?
Yes. Call (630) 914-5373 before your visit and we’ll tell you whether we can bill your plan. If we can’t, you can still be seen as a self-pay patient. Your cost is the visit plus any tests you need, and we can give you current self-pay pricing on the phone.
Is Pioneer Physicians a health insurance company?
No. Pioneer Physicians Urgent Care is a medical clinic, not an insurer, and we don’t sell health plans. We’re a walk-in urgent care and primary care practice at 148 S Bolingbrook Dr in Bolingbrook, IL. We accept the insurance plans listed on this page and see patients without insurance through self-pay.
