Illnesses and injuries we treat for Downers Grove patients

Adults and children of any age come to us for sudden illnesses and small injuries that should be looked at the same day. Typical reasons include:

  • Coughs, colds, flu symptoms and COVID-19
  • A sore throat, where a rapid strep test can show whether strep is the cause
  • Ear infections, sinus pain and pink eye
  • Burning or frequent urination, checked with a urine test
  • Twisted ankles, pulled muscles and bones that might be broken
  • Skin rashes and mild allergic reactions
  • Asthma symptoms that are acting up but not severe

Tests we run in the building

We can take X-rays any day the clinic is open, and we keep splints and crutches on hand. Rapid strep, flu and COVID tests, urine tests and EKGs are done on site too. Blood is drawn here and sent to an outside lab, which means those results come back after you leave. There is no CT or MRI. See X-ray for Downers Grove patients for more on injuries.

Vaccination shots near Downers Grove

Our Bolingbrook clinic gives flu shots to adults, but childhood vaccinations are not something we offer. According to the CDC, nearly everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine each season, and September and October are good months to do it, with the goal of finishing before October ends. Our flu shot page explains the visit.

For a child’s routine shots, start with your pediatrician or family doctor. The public option is the DuPage County Health Department, since all of Downers Grove is in DuPage. Its Wheaton, Westmont and Lombard offices give childhood immunizations through the Vaccines for Children program. That program covers children with no insurance, children whose plan does not pay for vaccines, and children eligible for Medicaid. Call 630-682-7400 with questions about vaccines and clinic times, which vary.

The same page links to Vax Verify, a state tool for downloading your vaccination record from I-CARE, the Illinois immunization registry.

School and sports physicals for District 58 and District 99 students

School, sports and yearly physicals are part of what we do, by walk-in or booked visit. Downers Grove Grade School District 58 serves about 4,900 students, preschool through eighth grade, in 11 elementary schools and two middle schools. Community High School District 99 runs the village’s two public high schools, Downers Grove North and Downers Grove South.

Illinois law sets when the exam is due: before preschool, within one year before kindergarten or first grade, on entering grades 6 and 9, and whenever a student starts at a new school. Schools want it recorded on the Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination.

Bring the school or team form, your child’s vaccine record and a list of medicines. We handle the exam itself; the shots stay with your child’s doctor or the county.

Primary care and other visits at the same clinic

For a regular doctor rather than a one-time visit, we also offer primary care here, including annual physicals.

Commercial drivers can get a DOT physical any day of the week from a certified medical examiner listed on the FMCSA National Registry. Confidential STD testing for Downers Grove patients covers the common STIs; a few results are ready the same day, while others go out to a lab. Peptide therapy, IV hydration therapy, medical weight loss, allergy testing, asthma treatment and women’s health visits are offered here as well.

A telehealth visit can spare you the drive for some concerns. Call (630) 914-5373 to ask if yours can be handled that way.

Insurance, Medicare and paying without insurance

Plans we take: Aetna, Cigna, Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, UnitedHealthcare, Humana and Illinois Medicaid plans, including HFS, Meridian, CountyCare, Molina and YouthCare. Coverage differs between plans, so call to confirm your specific plan before the drive.

Medicare matters here. The Census Bureau’s American Community Survey for 2020 to 2024 found that 21 percent of Downers Grove residents were 65 or older, about 1 in 5. Bring your Medicare card, any other plan card and a photo ID.

The same survey counted about 3 percent of residents without health insurance. Self-pay is available: the cost is the visit plus any tests, and we share current self-pay pricing by phone.

Our clinic does not stay open overnight. We’re open 8 AM to 8 PM every day, and after 8 PM the booking page offers next-day times. For a problem that could be serious and cannot wait, Good Samaritan’s emergency department at 3815 Highland Ave is always open. In an emergency, call 911.

Where can I get vaccination shots in Downers Grove?

Can I be seen without insurance?

Yes. Anyone can choose self-pay. The bill covers the visit and any tests the provider orders, a rapid strep test or an X-ray for example. Prices aren’t listed on this site, so phone (630) 914-5373 and ask for current self-pay pricing. If you are insured, have your card with you and call to confirm your specific plan.
