Is there pediatric urgent care near Darien?
Yes, about 14 minutes away in Bolingbrook. That is our only clinic, and we have no office in Darien, so plan on a drive of 7 to 10 miles depending on your street.
A pediatric urgent care visit is for a problem that started recently and can’t wait for your pediatrician’s next opening. Think of a fever with ear pain, a sore throat that might be strep, or an ankle that swelled after soccer practice. Immediate care for kids and a Darien walk-in clinic mean the same kind of visit. Our main pediatric urgent care page goes deeper on fevers, sore throats, coughs and falls.
The Census Bureau estimates that about 4,100 of Darien’s roughly 21,900 residents are under 18, and nearly 1,000 are younger than 5. We see all of those ages.

Driving from your part of Darien to Bolingbrook
From most of Darien the drive takes 13 to 16 minutes, with I-55 covering most of the trip. These estimates come from the OSRM routing service and assume light traffic:
- Central Darien near Cass Avenue: south on Cass Avenue to I-55, about 5 miles southwest on the Stevenson Expressway, then the Route 53 (Bolingbrook Drive) exit. About 8 miles and 13 minutes.
- Near City Hall on Plainfield Road: Plainfield Road turns into 83rd Street, then Lemont Road runs south to I-55 and the same Route 53 exit. About 7.3 miles and 13 minutes.
- East Darien near Hinsdale South High School: Route 83 (Kingery Highway) south to I-55, then Route 53. About 9.5 miles and 15 to 16 minutes.
If the Stevenson is backed up

When a Darien school sends your child home
Pick your child up, and if the symptoms need a same-day look, you can walk in without an appointment. Darien’s public school students are split among six districts. The City of Darien lists grade school districts 60, 61, 63 and 66, along with high school District 86, whose Hinsdale South High School sits in Darien, and District 99, home of Downers Grove South.
Each district sets its own rules, so check yours. District 61’s health page, which covers Mark DeLay, Lace and Eisenhower Junior High, asks parents to collect a sick child within one hour of the call. A child with a temperature of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours stays home, and must go 24 hours without fever, and without fever-reducing medicine, before returning. After an illness, the school may ask for a note from a doctor.
Strep throat follows its own clock. Under the CDC’s clinical guidance, a child diagnosed with strep stays out of school or childcare until they seem well again and 12 or more hours have passed since starting an appropriate antibiotic. When a sore throat and fever point to strep throat, we can do a rapid strep test while you’re here.

What we check and test during the visit
What we don’t offer
We have no CT or MRI, and results from the outside lab come back later.

Vaccines, checkups and your child’s pediatrician
We don’t give childhood vaccinations, and we aren’t a pediatric practice. Your child’s pediatrician keeps the vaccine record, growth charts and checkups, so let that office know about any visit here.
The DuPage County Health Department gives childhood vaccines through the Vaccines for Children program at its Wheaton, Westmont and Lombard offices. For Darien, the closest is the Southeast Public Health Center at 422 N Cass Ave in Westmont, roughly 4 miles straight up Cass Avenue from the center of town. The program covers children with no insurance, children whose insurance doesn’t pay for vaccines, and children who are Medicaid eligible. Children whose insurance covers vaccines don’t qualify, so ask your child’s doctor. Call 630-682-7400 for clinic times.
A physical for Hinsdale South sports or a new school is a separate kind of visit. See sports and school physicals.

Insurance and self-pay for Darien families
Darien families can use Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana or Medicare here. For children on Illinois Medicaid, we take HFS, Meridian, CountyCare, Molina and YouthCare plans. Plans vary, so call (630) 914-5373 and confirm your specific plan is accepted before the drive, then bring your child’s insurance card.
If your child has no coverage, or a plan we don’t take, self-pay is an option. You pay for the visit itself and for any test your child ends up needing, like a rapid strep test or an ankle X-ray. Call for current self-pay pricing.

Questions and answers
Questions we hear often
Still not sure? Call (630) 914-5373 and we will help you decide.
Is there a walk-in clinic for kids near Darien?
Yes. Our Bolingbrook clinic, a 14-minute drive from Darien, welcomes walk-ins for kids and teens every day, and it’s open 8 AM to 8 PM. You don’t need an appointment, though you can save a spot online before you leave home.
Is this a Darien pediatrician’s office?
No. We’re a walk-in urgent care in Bolingbrook for new illnesses and injuries in kids and adults, with no office in Darien. Checkups, vaccines and growth tracking belong with a pediatric practice. We handle the sudden ear pain or sprained wrist, and your pediatrician keeps the long-term record.
Do you see babies and teenagers?
Yes. We treat infants, toddlers, school-age kids and teens for new illnesses and injuries. The one exception is an infant under 3 months old running a fever of 100.4°F or higher. The American Academy of Pediatrics says that baby belongs in a hospital ER right away, because very young infants can get sick fast.
Is pediatric urgent care open on weekends near Darien?
Yes. Saturday and Sunday run on the weekday schedule: open 8 AM to 8 PM, with walk-ins welcome. A fever that starts on Saturday morning doesn’t have to wait for Monday. On a holiday, call (630) 914-5373 before leaving Darien to make sure we’re open.
What if my child gets sick after 8 PM?
We close at 8 PM and have no overnight hours. The AAP suggests calling your pediatrician first, since many offices have after-hours nurses. In the evening our booking page shows tomorrow’s times, so you can reserve a next-day visit online. For trouble breathing or a child who seems very sick, call 911 or go to the ER.
Can a grandparent or babysitter bring my child in?
Call (630) 914-5373 ahead of time to ask what we need when an adult other than a parent brings a child in. Send along your child’s insurance card, the medicine and allergy list, and the time of the last fever-reducer dose. Keep your phone close so the sitter or grandparent can reach you.
What should we bring to the visit?
Pack your child’s insurance card, your own photo ID, a list of medicines and allergies, and the name and number of your pediatrician’s office. If the school nurse took a temperature, write down the reading and the time. For a younger child, a favorite book or tablet makes the wait easier.
